Bad Drawing Tool was created out of an interest in web-based drawing tools and ASCII art. It's an exploration in both form and function, building on the long history of ASCII art that continues to grow today. From typewriters to noise-based ASCII animations, Bad Drawing Tool carves out its own unique place in the history by using a gesture-based interface.
The project enjoyed a lot of use in 2020 when a long-distance friend,
Margherita Buzzi used the tool in a workshop she held to stave off loneliness and boredom during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results from that workshop are shown below.
